Free Trade Zones Provide More Convenient Data Transfers
Since the launch of the security assessment mechanism for cross-border data transfers in September 2022, corporates have made frequent queries about compliance. On April 9, 2025, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) responded to some of the typical questions with a Q&A.
The Cybersecurity Law, Data Security Law and Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) are targeting only key data and personal information, the regulator said. General data other than those two may flow freely across borders.
