People's Bank of China issues rules restricting cross-border transfer of its business data

Issued: July 24, 2023

Applicability:     These Measures shall govern activities involving the processing of data relating to the business areas of the People's Bank of China engaged in by data processors in the People's Republic of China. Where otherwise provided by laws, administrative regulations or the People's Bank of China, such provisions shall be complied with.

For the purposes of these Measures, the term "data in the business areas of the People's Bank of China" means online data not involving state secrets generated and collected in the course of conducting, in accordance with laws, administrative regulations, decisions of the State Council and the rules and regulations of the People's Bank of China, various types of business activities for which the People's Bank of China bears oversight responsibilities ("Data") (Article 2).
