Senior legal counsel discusses how IP rights must be proactively and creatively defended. China's strict scrutiny of its jewelry industry may further tighten, with specific AML rules expected to arrive in the near future.

Irene Cheung is senior legal counsel at Luk Fook Holdings, a company established in 1991 that engages in the sourcing, designing, wholesaling, trademark licensing and retailing of a variety of gold and platinum jewelry and gem-set jewelry products. The company has over 2500 retail stores worldwide, with around 2000 of those located in China.

Cheung joined the company in 2008 and currently oversees its legal affairs in all jurisdictions, including China, Australia, Canada, the U.S. the Philippines, and Malaysia. Cheung and her team have been shortlisted for the 2021 China Law & Practice In-house Awards.
