China to overhaul private education industry, restrictions on foreign investment
China is cracking down on the country's private education sector with a ban on for-profit tutoring companies and restrictions on foreign investment. On July 24, the General Office of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the Opinions on Further Reducing the Work Burden of Students in Compulsory Education and Off-campus Training (关于进一步减轻义务教育阶段学生作业负担和校外培训负担的意见). The high-level document calls on all regions and government departments to implement the guidelines.
