Shenzhen imposes heavy penalties to protect data privacy

Issued: May 31, 2021

Main contents: Where the lawful rights and interests of another market entity or consumers are prejudiced or transaction counterparties characterized by identical trading conditions are treated in different manners and the circumstances thereof are serious or give rise to serious consequences, the municipal market regulatory department shall order immediate rectification, forfeit the illegal income, impose a fine of up to Rmb50 million or 5% of the previous year's turnover and may impose a penalty such as suspension of a permit or license, reduction of qualification grade, revocation of a permit or license, restricting engagement in production and/or operating activities, ordering a suspension of production or business, ordering a shutdown or restricting engagement in business (Article 86).
