2020 was a significant year in the sphere of personal information protection in China. Several critical laws and regulations were published during the year. Most importantly, the Draft of the Law on the Protection of Personal Information (《个人信息保护法》(草案)) was published, aiming to further enhance the country's legislation on personal information protection. Various measures, industry specifications and other documents in different specific industries indicate deeper and more specialized regulation in this area of law, and it is anticipated that further regulations will emerge in 2021.
