In 2020, China continued its efforts to modernize its international arbitration practice. With a landmark opinion on award nationality and a significant update to the mainland's enforcement pact with Hong Kong, the Chinese judiciary signaled further intent to bring international arbitration in China closer in line with international best practices.
Modernizing and improving arbitration services is important to China. Arbitration is the most popular dispute resolution mechanism for resolving cross-border commercial disputes related to China; more than 90% of foreign-related contracts involving a Chinese party have arbitration as their dispute resolution mechanism.
