The TMT industry has been particularly active in China throughout 2016. Almost all sub-sectors—such as cybersecurity and protection of personal information, internet search and advertising, internet finance, online car hailing, video, online publishing and e-commerce—have witnessed incidents that drew public attention. These events not only highlight the new issues and challenges that China faces in the TMT sector, but, to a certain extent, also prompted or accelerated a series of laws, regulations and policies to be formulated.
