China's State Grid International Development (State Grid) has acquired seven power transmission projects in Brazil from four Spanish engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies for US$1.8 billion.
This is the largest completed Chinese investment in Brazil to date, the largest Chinese acquisition of power transmission assets outside China and the first time a Chinese company has acquired complete control of a foreign electricity grid asset.
A multi-office Milbank Tweet Hadley & McCloy team advised State Grid. The team was led by Hong Kong and Beijing-based Anthony Root and New York-based Dan Bartfeld.
