Applicability: The Measures apply to the broadcast of commercials by radio and television stations, including broadcasting stations that have both radio and television broadcasts, as well as relevant activities of radio and television transmission organisations (Article 2).

The term “commercials on radio and television” refers to public welfare advertisements and commercial advertisements (including information broadcast, radio shopping shows and short television shopping commercials) (Article 3).

Main contents: The Measures prohibit commercials in disguise in the form of news reports, and commercials of tobacco products and prescription drugs on radio and television (Article 9). Programmes and segments on news, current affairs and politics may not be named after an enterprise or a product. Interviews of individuals and features on enterprises may not contain the address or contact details of such individuals or enterprises (Article 10). Commercials of an investment nature such as investment consultancy, wealth management and franchising shall contain warnings such as “there are risks in investment” (Article 11). Commercials of a gambling nature may not be broadcast except for commercials of welfare lottery and sports lottery that are approved in accordance with the law (Article 12).
