Herbert Smith has opened a restructuring practice in Hong Kong with the hire of partner Michael Barker.
Barker will focus on restructuring and insolvency work and, according to the firm, will launch a non-contentious restructuring and insolvency practice in the China region and across Asia. He specialises in advising creditors, debtors and investors.
Barker is qualified in Hong Kong, England and Wales, and Bermuda. He was partner and regional practice group head at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer until 2007, before joining offshore firm Appleby. At Herbert Smith, he will most closely work with Hong Kong-based finance partner Alexander Aitken.
