Stricter provisions for food labelling.

Interpreting Authority: General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine

Applicability: The indication and administration regarding labels on foodstuffs produced (including sub-packaged) and sold in the China shall be governed by these Provisions (Article 2).

For the purposes of these Provisions, the term "food labelling" is the collective name for text, symbols, figures, pictorial matters and other forms of explanation, affixed to, printed or marked on foodstuffs or their packaging and used to indicate relevant information such as the name of the foodstuff, its quality grade, quantity, method of consumption or use, and producer or seller (Article 3).

Main Contents: The Provisions set forth the labeling requirements on the name, place of origin, name and address of the producer, production date, durability and ingredients of foodstuffs (Part Two). The form of food labeling such as the use of foreign language is also specified (Part Three).
