Applicability: The term “automobile product external identifier” refers to the registered commodity trademark, manufacturer's name, place of origin of the product, model name and number, engine emission level, transmission model, drive type and other identifiers reflecting the characteristics of a vehicle (Article 2). The Measures apply to vehicles manufactured in China and sold to the domestic market. Vehicles manufactured in China but targeting overseas markets are not required to conform with the same requirements imposed on imported vehicles

Main contents: The name of the automobile manufacturer, commodity trademark, model name, etc. shall be marked on the obvious parts at the rear of the vehicle body of domestically-manufactured passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and trailers. The manufacturer's name may be omitted if the respective abbreviated Chinese names, or the respective registered Chinese trademarks, of the parties to an automobile manufacturing equity joint venture, are marked combinedly (Article 6). The contents of the external identifiers marked on vehicle products shall be consistent with the trademark licence of vehicle products and contents marked on such documents as quality assurance certificates for whole vehicles (Article 11).
