State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Administration of the Import and Broadcast of Foreign Television Programmes Provisions

Applicability: "Foreign television programmes" refers to foreign films and television dramas (or animated television programmes) as well as other kinds of television programmes such as those on education, science and culture available for broadcasting by television stations (Article 2).

Main contents: No current affair news programmes may be imported (Article 2). Foreign television programmes that have not been examined or approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television or radio and television administrative departments entrusted thereby may neither be imported nor broadcast (Article 4). Application for the import of foreign films and television dramas, import of other foreign television programmes and import of other foreign television programmes by way of satellite transmission shall submit such materials as import contracts and copyright documents (Articles 9, 10 and 14). Foreign television programmes other than films, television dramas and animated television programmes imported with approval shall be repackaged and re-edited, and shall not be broadcast directly as programmes during fixed time slots. No television station logo of foreign channels or any related wording shall appear on screen within the programme, and no such content as analogous to the effect of advertising foreign media or channels shall appear (Article 17). Foreign films and television dramas that have not been approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television may not be broadcast during prime time (19:00-22:00) (Article 18).
