Applicability: "Sino-foreign cooperation in production of films" means legally certified Chinese film producers jointly investing in, assisting in or being appointed with the production of films inside or outside China with or by foreign film producers
(Article 2). These Provisions apply to feature films, fine art films, scientific and educational films, documentaries and films on special subjects (including TV films and digital films) (Article 3).
The Provisions apply to the cooperation of production of films in the mainland by film producers from the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and the Taiwan region (Article 19).

Main contents: The Provisions stipulate that Sino-foreign cooperation in production of films requires a Permit for Sino-foreign Cooperation in Production of Film, which is valid for two years, or an approval document (Articles 7 and 10). Article 9 details the application procedures. Films produced by Sino-foreign cooperation must abide by the principles on the content listed in Article 6 and must be examined and approved by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television before being released (Article 14).
