Telecommunications Regulatory Bureau of Ministry of Information Industry, Administration of Model Changes for Telecommunications Terminal Equipment to be Connected to Networks Provisions

Applicability: The Provisions apply to the examination, reporting and testing of technical modifications to models of telephones, MODEMS, mobile telephones and other telecommunication equipment during the period they are covered by a Network Connection Licence (Article 2).

Main contents: Technical modifications to equipment that connects to networks must be reported to the original testing body (Article 3). The report and material submitted will include the Network Connection Licence number, the current model name and number, the revised model number, and a summary of the technical modifications (Article 4(1)). Other necessary supporting materials include a colour photo of the circuit board (Article 4(2)) and schematic diagrams of the original and modified designs (Article 4(3)). If the modifications consist of a simple change of model number and envelope, but no change in capability, software or circuit design, then no inspection of the electrical or other systems is required (Article 6(1)). If the modifications include minor alterations to the equipment's capabilities, software or circuit board, but the modified design can be shown to constitute a different version within the same model series, then an inspection of packaging, appearance, assembly and instruction manual will be performed (Article 6(2)). Where major modifications to a model have taken place a full inspection is required (Article 6(3)). The completed report will be submitted to the Telecommunications Equipment Network Connection Administration Centre (Article 7).
